Well It is officially the end of summer. Tomorrow I'll be going back to Austin, TX to continue my studies. Although I don't start school for another three days, I consider this the last summer night because once I get to ATX I will be super busy. This summer was one of the best and the worst.

I would say the best because I spent tons of time with my family and friends. Since I live in a different city, sometimes its hard to spend time with everyone when I visit my hometown, but I was able to redeem myself this summer. It is also one of the best summers because I was able to see two of my favorite bands in concert. Rise Against and Green Day were amazing!!! I also did some traveling during this long break. I spent time in Dallas, TX (where I saw the new cowboys stadium), and I also partied on the Island (south padre island, TX).

I would say that this summer was one of the worst because I was financially broke the entire summer. My mother was in a car accident with an uninsured driver, which left us without money and car. I was also depressed throughout the break. I felt lost, worthless, and just plainly unsure about myself and who I am. Throughout the summer, I was in constant conflict with both my siblings and my parents. Basically, there were a lot of small problems throughout the summer.

I can't help but have bitter sweet feelings about these past two and a half months. Everything is better now and I am actually mildly excited about returning to school and ATX. So, in the spirit of summer '09 and Fuse's 20 songs of summer (which I am currently watching while writing this journal entry), I've decided to end this post with MY top twelve songs of summer '09. Some of these songs might of been out before summer summer or might be fresh on the airwaves but this is what I was listening to.

*****I also chose songs that were released as singles or have videos released during or around summer (some of the songs have been on albums since last year but were just released). (I've been listening to older records from: Green Day, Blink-182, Incubus, Rise Against, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Evanescence, Avenged Sevenfold etc.)******

1. 21 Guns-Green Day
2. New Divide-Linkin Park
3. Ignorance-Paramore
4. Sink Into Me-Taking Back Sunday
5. Audience of One- Rise Against
6. Use Somebody-Kings of Leon
7. Black Heart Inertia-Incubus
8. I almost told you that I love you-Papa Roach
9. Dead Memories-Slipnot
10. Waking Up in Vegas-Katy Perry
11. Don't Trust Me-3oh!3
12. Poker Face-Lady Gaga

The order of them is not certain. This is what I feel right now at 2:41 a.m. lol. One song might be closer to number one because I might have heard minutes before writing this post.

When You Were Young is my favorite song by The Killers. Although Brandon Flowers voice is incredible in this track and the song has an awesome rock feel, this song is my favorite because of what it means to me. It greatly reminds me of my mother's life. I know this sounds a bit cheesy but at The Killers concert in Feb., I cried when they sang this song. The emotion that Brandon put into it, and my meaning of the song, filled me with emotions that I couldn't contain. My mom has had a rough love life.

I will break down the song to explain.

'When You Were Young' by The Killers

"You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now ... here he comes!"

My mother met my father when she was getting out of a really bad relationship. The man that my mom was previously married to would constantly cheat on her. My mother was heartbroken and although she was still in love with him, she knew that she had to let him go. That is when she met my father.

"He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young"

My mother said that she fell in love with my father because he was so proper and such "a gentleman" (completely different from her previous husband). She always tells me that since she was a little girl, she wanted to marry someone like her father. My grandfather was a man of very good morals and values. He was a part of the rich upper class of Mexico and owned several super stores (like HEB) throughout the Mexican border. My grandfather was very noble and had several charities to help the poor in Mexico. My mom wanted someone with a heart as big as my grandfathers' and she thought my father was that man.

"Can we climb this mountain
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go"

This part of the song reminds me of when my mom told her parents that she wanted to marry my dad. They were against it. My father had no money to his name and was going through a divorce, just like my mother. Without my grandparent's approval, my mother decided to move in with my dad and be together forever. "Higher now than ever before" reminds me of what my parents might of gone through when everyone was against their 'love'. "I know we can make it if we take is slow." They slowly made a life together.

"We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young"

The first two lines, in the interpretation of my mother's life, are about when my father started going down the wrong path. My father's first marriage failed because he constantly cheated. In my parent's relationship it wasn't any different. He started going back to his own ways and cheated on my mother.

"And sometimes you close your eyes
and see the place where you used to live
When you were young"

My mother tells me that during this time she felt so alone. She missed her family and friends in Mexico. She had left it all behind to come and live with her first husband in the United States.

"They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while "

My mother forgave my father and stayed with him. Unfortunately, my father decided to cheat again and again. This lyric reminds me of how she tried to fix him. "They say the devil's water, it aint so sweet... but you can dip your feet..." Even-though he hurt her, she still loved him and believed that she can fix him.

"You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentleman
Like you imagined when you were young
(He talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined when)
When you were young "

So my mother sits again in her heartache waiting for the same beautiful boy to come back. She still loves that beautiful boy but he has changed.

"I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know"

After many years, the beautiful boy never came back. My mother realized that my father was nothing like the man she fell in love with. "He doesn't look a thing like Jesus."
My parents finally split up, but he still causes her and us (his children) pain.

I'm really sorry for the super long post, I was just so inspired to write it down and share. I also wanted to know if anyone else feels the same way about this song or if there is another song that has a similar meaning to someone else.

Since I mentioned I went to the concert, here is some eyecandy.

The Green Day concert was amazing. They performed most of the songs on 21st century breakdown plus all the singles from their other albums. Billie Joe has amazing energy on stage. Tre Cool, even though he is behind his drum, shows true passion, and Mike Drint can jump pretty high. I completely loved how Billie Joe involved the crowd in every song. He even chose people from the crowd to sing with him and he even picked a guy to play a Pantera song with them. The involvement of props also made the concert very entertaining. There was a water gun, a portable spotlight, a toilet paper throwing gun, a gun that throws t-shirts, crazy hats, and Tre Cool even wore a big red bra. There was so much energy from the band and the audience. The concert was so amazing that there were three encores. The performance quality was on of the best and Billie Joe's voice is great live. This is one of the best concert I've have been to.

Current Music: When I come Around by Green Day
So on my last post I wrote that I was ecstatic about going to the Green Day Concert, well it turns out that I am no longer going. My "best friend' decided that buying the tickets early was not important. I must have called her about 15 times today to ask her about the tickets and she decided to answer my call at about 5 pm to tell me that she has been at the mall all day and hasn't even searched for a ticketmaster location (the concert is tomorrow and ticketmaster outlets close at 6). I would buy the tickets online but I don't have enough money in my bank account to cover it. When she said she wanted to go to the concert with me, I told her that I could take care of getting the tickets but she insisted that she would get them. After seeing my disappointment, she promised that she was going to look for tickets tomorrow before the show but I don't have much hope.

I am just really disappointed. I am always there for her when she needs me. I have bailed her out of many situations. Now that I need her, she is not trust worthy. I know it is just a concert, but things in my life have not been going well. I am somewhat of an introverted person, so I hold my emotion in and a concert (for me) is always the best medicine to clear my emotions and release some aggression.

(I apologize if somethings don't make too much sense... writing while being pissed off and disappointed can cause run-on sentences and rants.)

On my previous post about Green Day, I spoke about my frustration over not being able to attend the concert on Aug 9th in San Antonio, TX. This morning, when I spoke to my best friend she agreed to go with me to the concert and even volunteered to pay for the tickets. Of course, I refused to let her pay for my ticket. I am just happy that she is going with me. This made my entire week better. I am so excited that I can barely hold it in, which leads me to the purpose of today's post...

Since this morning I can not stop listening to Green Day (both old and new songs)! I couldn't help to think that 21st Century Breakdown is a really good album. At times it does very much remind me of American Idiot but with a mexican twist. However, both albums are very different and have very different characters. Christian's character is very similar to St. Jimmy but they are not quite the same. The same goes for Gloria and Whatshername. The similarities and the differences between both albums are so close that I realized that I couldn't make up my mind about which album I like more.
I would, however like to know what the other Green Day Fans think.
(I don't bring Nimrod, Kirplunk, or Insomniac, etc, into this discussion because they were all great in their own ways.)

I am in love with LA INK. Kat Von D's Tattoo's are always awesome. Cory also does amazing work. I wish I lived in LA to get tatted by them.

Since the last post was about one of my idols, I would like to add that Kat Von D is also one of my idols. As a fellow Hispanic woman trying to make it in a man's world, I am proud that Kat Von D has made it in the world of tattooing. Sometimes its hard to come upon a woman tattoo artist. Its good to know that there is a good representation of us in a place where we (Hispanic Women) are the minority. WIth that said, I'd also like to confess that Kat is gorgeous and if a magic genie ever asked me to switch bodies with someone for a day, I'd choose Kat Von D. I do have a slight girl crush on her but I'm not a lesbian.

I am absolutely in love with 'Ignorance' by Paramore. The song is simply amazing. I love the guitar riffs, rhythm, and style of the song. The lyrics are also genius and I can relate to the song. I have been a fan of Paramore since their first single 'Pressure'. 'All we know is Falling' is an absolutely great album. It truly expressed everything that I was feeling at that point in time. When 'Riot' (Paramore's second studio album) was released, I was absolute head over heals for the band's new music. Now that 'Ignorance' is the new single for the new album 'Brand New Eyes,' I can't wait to see what the new album has to offer. I can't help but to be excited and anxious for their new material.

However, the reason for this post, besides Paramore's new music is to speak of Hayley (The lead singer of Paramore). I know that Paramore is a band, and I do agree that it is not fair that Hayley gets most of the attention because the other band members do work very hard, but it is hard to not be amazed by her accomplishments. She is an image of what I wish I had. I have been singing since I was able to talk, (believe me, my mom has some embarrassing videos of me singing at 3 yrs. of age), but I have never had the courage to form a band or put myself out there. At my age, 20, Hayley has a band, three albums, 9 singles, several awards, and made a career out of what she loves to do. Hayley has an amazing voice, awesome taste in fashion, and mad skills for makeup. She did all of this in the world of Alternative Rock which is know as a mans industry. I guess you can say that she is one of my idols. I hope that one day I can accomplish half of what she has accomplished in the world of music.

Today I couldn't concentrate due to the fact that Green Day is coming to San Antonio this sunday (Aug. 9th) and I don't have tickets!!! I am supper bummed and angry!! Like I posted on my twitter.. I blame the Uninsured driver that crashed into my mom for my current poor economic condition!! Today, I spent the whole day listening to the radio in hopes that I might win tickets (hence the bad work ethic..lol) but I had no luck!! This concert will be the death of me if I don't attend!! Green Day is not my ultimately favorite band, but it is pretty up there in the top ten. I hope I get free tickets soon or else I'm afraid that I'll do something drastic!!!! LOL!!

Well here I am, on yet another social networking site to distract me from doing what I have to do. I am still not sure on how this works but since this is my first post I guess a couple of lame words and insecurities are allowed. I don't think I have anything else to say at the moment... bye.
